MOSCOW, May 27 (PRIME) -- Russia has decided to postpone the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that was to take place on July 22–23 in St. Petersburg, a high-ranking source familiar with the organization of the event told PRIME on Wednesday.

“The president decided to postpone the event, postpone it to a later date, most likely closer to the autumn,” the source said.

The decision was made “in connection with the epidemiological situation, given that in almost all the member states of the association it has not been fully resolved.”

“More or less, the situation is getting better in China, but the disease continues to spread in other countries. Therefore, it is considered appropriate at this stage to refrain from holding the event until the situation is clarified, so as to prepare accordingly,” the source added.
